Does anyone agree with me that this is the Greatest ballet score ever ? In parts heartrendly beautiful - fiercely original - resourcfully noble -artfully vicious -seeringly , descriptive of human frailty. Here given masterful interpretation by a diamond class orchestra and inspired leadership.

How I love this music- as much as I did when I first heard it over fifty years ago. It is, without question, one of Prokofiev's greatest scores, if not his greatest. But this is clearly yet another version of the suite, assembled by... whomever; possibly this conductor- containing unexpected things such the famous opening notes of the main theme ( A B C) being transposed down a minor 3rd lower. It is written in C major. Why was it transposed down to the darker key of A major, losing the steely edge of the original pitch. Though, as also happens with Swan Lake, for example, each conductor selects his own favourite bits, in order to make up his own suite, I guess. And in this case, he wanted to glue it onto that little transition passage for bassoons ( at : 16) which I've never heard before.
